According to the Minister, Tajikistan has traditionally been an important agricultural partner of Russia. In 2018 the turnover of agricultural products with Tajikistan amounted to $154 million.

“We see fast development in almost all traditional areas of agrarian cooperation. In January-April 2019 trade between our countries increased by 30% to $60 million”, Mr Patrushev noted.

The main goods that Russia exports to Tajikistan are confectionery, sunflower oil, margarine, beverages, food and dairy products, cereals and poultry meat.

As the head of the Ministry of Agriculture noted, an important direction in the development of trade remains the interaction of relevant supervisory bodies that ensure access of agricultural products to the markets of the two countries. Russia and Tajikistan are actively engaged in the integration of traceability systems for regulated products. The possibility of switching to electronic certification when moving goods controlled by veterinary supervision from Russia to the Republic is being considered. Such a mechanism would improve the certification procedure and ensure complete traceability of goods.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed cooperation issues within the Green Corridor and Simplified Customs Corridor projects, the agreement on which was signed between the countries in April. Their implementation greatly simplifies customs operations for suppliers of certain types of agricultural products.

In conclusion, the Minister stressed that joint work in these areas will allow countries to reach a qualitatively new level of partnership in the field of agriculture and will make cooperation more efficient and productive.
