11 Oct, 2018
The head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia Dmitry Patrushev met with his Nigerian counterpart – the Minister of Agriculture Audu Innocent Ogbe. As our Minister stressed, the AIC industry is traditionally the key area of Russian-Nigerian cooperation. In addition, recently we’ve observed general strengthening of trade and economic relations between the two countries.
Over the first 9 months of 2018, agricultural turnover increased by 1.6 times exceeding $330 million. At the same time, through the growth in wheat and frozen fish supplies, Russian exports of agricultural products in value terms increased by 1.8 times up to $310 million.
“The Nigerian market remains much important and promising for us. The Russian party is interested in further advancing of Russian grain crops and mineral fertilizers. We also consider meat, fishery and aquaculture products as probable areas of bilateral trade”, said Dmitry Patrushev.
At present, Nigeria keeps on banning the imports of products of animal origin, that’s why the Russian party asked for clarifying the current status of the point, having in mind would-be Russian meat deliveries, and also offered to boost cooperation of the supervisory services of the two countries.
